Level Up Your K-Dance Form with FODI, a conversation with Jujin Jeong (CEO)
Do you like BTS, Blackpink, or NCT? Or have you ever watched a K-Pop dance performance? Just scroll, search, and click on your IG, YouTube or TikTok accounts, you’ll find hundreds of new K-Pop music and dance groups posted. Korean pop music and dance have been dominating today’s world of music and entertainment, including here in New York.
Do you know that if you are a member of a K-Pop dance group or choreographer, you can train yourself with the AI K-Dance training platform?
Meet FODI, an AI-based K-Dance training platform that’s changing how people learn to dance and move, whether you’re a street dancer, a choreographer, a member of K-Pop group or just a K-Dance fan. FODI’s smart system makes practice more structured, fun, creative, and professional. FODI is a short for Formation Director in My Hand. This is a Tea Time talk with Jujin Jeong, the CEO of Saeheureum Inc., the company behind the K-Dance training system FODI.
Q: Hi Jujin Jeong, great to meet you here in Brookly
A: Hi, yes, great to meet you too. Glad to be here, this is our first showcase at Koom Festival 2025, in New York.
Q: Why did you create FODI?
A: We developed FODI to help anyone create professional-level stage performances more easily. The app lets users record their formations intuitively and rehearse together through real-time simulation features.
Q: What inspired you to create FODI, and why focus on K-Pop music?
A: I believe K-Pop’s greatest strength lies in its performance. That’s what led to the rise of the global cover dance culture, with over a billion YouTube posts related to it. K-Pop is approachable, it's popular and easy to follow even for beginners. However, K-Pop groups perform in teams, and synchronizing formations can be incredibly difficult and time-consuming. To understand the problem, I personally DM’d around 300 dance teams, and 136 replied. More than 80% of them said they still draw formations by hand and face similar challenges during rehearsals. Realizing how many people struggle with this, and how much we could improve their experience, became my biggest motivation to create FODI.
Q: Did your personal experience as a dancer influence this idea?
A: Absolutely. As a dance-team leader, I used to spend countless hours creating formations manually, it was exhausting. There are many problems in the dance process, but I wanted to solve the one I understood best. I also have a background in Graphic Design and Cultural Content Management,so blending technology with creativity came naturally. That mix helped me turn an analog rehearsal process into a digital solution focused on user experience. This is an experience combination of my mix background, as a dancer and as a graphic designer.
Q: How does the group formation feature work?
A: Users simply enter their team size, and FODI with our special design and AI technology automatically suggests suitable formation presets from basic V or M shapes to hundreds of creative variations. There are currently over 600 presets, and formations can be completed with just one click.
Q: Does FODI include K-Pop choreography, or is it more about creating your own?
A: FODI isn’t a choreography making app, but rather a tool to study both choreography and formation together. Users can embed YouTube videos inside the app to learn choreography while tracking formations. When creating new ones, they can use AI draft generation to speed up the process and reduce creative fatigue. It helps beginners overcome the steep learning curve and lowers the barrier to professional-level performance design.
Q: How does the music feature work?
A: Users can import their own audio files and make light edits directly in the app.If they prefer, they can embed YouTube videos to practice choreography and music together in one view.
Q: Can FODI be used with non-K-Pop songs too?
A: Of course! As long as the user uploads their own audio file, FODI works with any genre of music, not just K-Pop.
Q: How big is your user community? Are there users in the U.S. or New York?
A: We currently have around 20,000 users, and the number of U.S. users is growing steadily. At the KOOM Festival in New York, we showcased the app for the first time, and we hope even more people in the U.S. will start using FODI soon.
Q: Could FODI’s formation features also be useful for cheerleading or other performance arts?
A: Exactly. Our target audience isn’t limited to K-Pop dancers. FODI can be used across various performance fields like ballet, musical theater, and cheerleading. We plan to continue expanding features tailored to each genre in the future.
Q: Where can people download FODI, and how does the membership work?
A: FODI is available on both iPhone and Android. Most basic features are free to use, while PRO features include AI draft generation, embedded music when sharing formations with teammates, and YouTube integration for formation-with-choreography view. The early-bird subscription is currently about $2.20 USD (₩3,000), and early subscribers can keep that price even after the standard subscription increases to around $3.70 USD (₩5,000) later.
Q: Finally, can people reach out to learn more about FODI?
A: Of course! You can DM us on Instagram at @fodi.official.global or send an email to zina@saeheureum.com, we’d love to hear from anyone. Thank you!
